SR-201 Bridge Work Update

Coming Soon – Be Prepared for Traffic Switch and Ramp Closures

Construction Updates:

Full Closure – NOW – 3200 West: From Thursday, August 1, through the end of the construction period, 3200 West underneath the SR-201 bridge will be closed for bridge rehabilitation. The rehabilitation is anticipated to start in early August and take approximately 5 months to complete. Due to the new traffic configuration, 3200 West will be closed with NO ACCESS under SR-201. Please note that there will be live traffic and barriers set, so there is no pedestrian access under the bridge. If you need assistance navigating the construction area, please call us at 801-251-6254.

Ramp Closures:

  • SR-201 Eastbound On and Off Ramps at 3200 West – August 3 to August 5: The eastbound on and off ramps at 3200 West are scheduled to be closed from 9 p.m. on Saturday, August 3, to 5 a.m. on Monday, August 5, and again from 9 p.m. on Monday, August 5 to 5 a.m. on Tuesday August 6, to facilitate the traffic switch. During this time, crews will be placing barriers, paving, and restriping to accommodate the traffic shift.
  • SR-201 Westbound On and Off Ramps at 3200 West – August 6: The westbound on and off ramps at 3200 West are scheduled to be closed from 9 p.m. on Tuesday, August 6, to 5 a.m. on Wednesday, August 7, to facilitate the traffic switch. During this time, crews will be placing barriers, paving, and restriping to accommodate the traffic shift.
  • Southbound I-215 to Westbound SR-201 Ramp – August 6: The ramp from southbound I-215 to westbound SR-201 will be closed from 10 p.m. on Tuesday, August 6, to 5 a.m. on Wednesday, August 7, to facilitate the traffic switch and striping activities on SR-201.

Traffic Switches – August 5 and 6: Starting the night of Monday, August 5, into the early morning of August 6, crews will begin detouring traffic off SR-201 at 3200 West and switching traffic to the new configuration to prepare for bridge deck replacement. The following night, Tuesday, August 6, into the early morning of August 7, all westbound traffic will also be switched into the new configuration. These traffic configurations will remain in place until winter.

Please be prepared for a new traffic configuration where SR-201 traffic will be shifted to the on and off ramps at 3200 West. Be advised to slow down and be prepared for up to 30-minute traffic delays.

Traffic Impacts

Lane Shifts: Starting August 5th and 6th, SR-201 traffic will be directed off the bridge and onto the on- and off-ramps at 3200 W. During this time there will be new stripping installed, and traffic will be shifted. Please make sure to follow the new lane striping pattern.

Travel Delays: Beginning August 1st, there may be travel delays of up to 30 minutes during construction. Drivers are encouraged to use alternate routes.

Lower Speeds: Drivers are asked to slow down and exercise caution in the construction area. Concrete barriers and fencing are scheduled to be installed as safety measures on August 3rd and 4th.

Project Overview

The Bridge Deck Rehabilitation Project is located on State Route 201 at 3200 West. Crews will demolish the two bridge decks on SR-201 and replace them with new, smoother driving surfaces. Drivers should expect delays of more than 30 minutes on SR-201 during peak travel times.

3200 W. is scheduled to be closed to traffic under the SR-201 bridge during construction. Traffic on SR-201 will be detoured down and up the ramps in a free-flow condition with right-in/ right-out access at 3200 W. Construction is anticipated to start July 2024 and will take approximately six months to complete.

Drivers are encouraged to take I-80, I-215, Redwood Road, 3500 South, and other alternate routes to avoid delays.

This project will bring significant benefits to our community, including:

  • Enhanced Safety: The new bridge decks will provide a safer driving experience.
  • Accelerated Timing: The project is designed for efficient execution to minimize disruptions and complete the rehabilitation swiftly.

Motorist Detour Routes

When the on and off ramps at 3200 West are closed, motorists are advised to detour to Redwood Road and Bangerter Highway.

When the ramps reopen, there will be a right-in at 3200 West and a right-out onto SR-201.

Northbound: For traffic heading eastbound and intending to travel northbound on 3200 West, please be advised of the following detour route: Traffic will be detoured to Redwood Road, where traffic can turn around and proceed west on SR-201 and turn right to get off at 3200 West.

Southbound: For traffic heading westbound and intending to travel southbound on 3200 West, please be advised of the following detour route: Traffic will be detoured to Bangerter Highway, where traffic can turn around and proceed east on SR-201 and turn right to get off at 3200 West.

Traffic exiting the eastbound ramp headed south will not be able to make a left-hand turn on 2100 South/Frontage Road. Instead, they will need to head south on 3200 West to Parkway Blvd and turn left, then turn left again on 2700 West/Constitution Blvd.

Cyclist Detour Routes

Construction Update:
This detour has been designed for cyclists who need to travel near the construction work zone. We strongly encourage cyclists who do not need to travel near the work zone to use alternative routes such as 3500 South/Parkway Blvd., the Jordan River Parkway Trail, Cross Town Trail, and others whenever possible.

  • Southbound: Cyclists should take 2100 West to 1700 South, then follow Redwood Road to Parkway Blvd. to bypass the closure
  • Northbound: Cyclists are advised to take the detour at Parkway Blvd. before reaching the closure at 3200 West and the SR-201 bridge. This route will help you avoid the closed area and ensure a smoother journey.
